Paying the membership fee
In 2018, the membership fee of the Industrial Union is 1.49 % of the income subject to tax withholding (union 1 %, unemployment fund share 0.49 %).
The membership fee is also paid for receiving holiday pay abd sick leave pay. If you are unemployed and receive union fund benefits, such as earnings related allowance, you are freed from paying the membership fee.
You do not need to pay a membership fee for receiving KELA (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland) benefits. However, do not forget to notify the member register of the grounds for fee exemption (e.g., maternity or paternity leave, sick-leave, unemployment).
If you have made a collection agreement with your employer, the union membership fee will be directly withheld from your salary.
You can also pay the fee to the union directly. Please note that the reference numbers for membership fees are personal, i.e. you cannot pay the membership fee of your spouse or friend using your own reference number.
