Shall we agree that we’ll make workplaces safe.

Did you know that most accidents at work could be prevented if the workplace had an effective occupational health and safety organisation? Even today, many Finnish workplaces still lack an occupational health and safety (OHS) representative.

Now is the time to make sure every workplace has an occupational health and safety representative! Organise an OHS representative election at your workplace between 1 November and 31 December 2025!

Safety must be a priority at the workplace – and employees’ health and work ability must be looked after.

As an OHS representative, you can make a difference for a safer and healthier workplace.

The law and collective agreement guarantee OHS representatives the right to:

  • reserve time for OHS tasks
  • receive appropriate training
  • be reimbursed for their time.

Occupational health and safety tasks are part of the working time.

You don’t have to spend any of your free time for the tasks to keep your workplace safe.

The OHS representative has a genuine opportunity to contribute to a safer and healthier workplace.

The OHS representative is an employee elected by the work community to represent them in occupational safety cooperation at the workplace and in communication with the OHS authorities.

At workplaces with at least ten regular employees, employees must elect an OHS representative and a first and second deputy OHS representative from among themselves.

The OHS representative is a key person at the workplace.

The OHS representative promotes employees’ interests and works with the employer to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
